What we ask of each other, and what you can expect from us.
Be kind. Keep what is shared in this community in this community. Do not pressure anyone into anything — sharing, dosing, touching, spending, or staying. Look after yourself and the person next to you. If something goes wrong, tell an organizer.
We run this community as volunteers. We will treat you with respect, keep our spaces as safe and accessible as we reasonably can, be clear about what an event is and is not, and take concerns seriously when they are raised — including when they are raised about an organizer.
No discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, body size, religion, class, or immigration status. No harassment, no slurs, no unwanted sexual attention, no intimidation. Disagreement is welcome; contempt is not.
What is shared in meetings and integration circles stays there. No names, no stories, no details — including in group chats, on social media, and with partners and friends. If you want to talk about your own experience, you are always free to; it is other people's you must protect.
Honest limits: confidentiality is not absolute. We may share information without your consent where someone is at risk of serious harm, where a child or vulnerable person is at risk, or where we are legally required to. We will tell you if that happens unless doing so would increase the risk.
Participation is voluntary at every step. You can pass on a question, leave a circle, sit out an exercise, or go home early, and you never owe anyone an explanation. Ask before touching anyone, before photographing anyone, and before sharing anything about them. Anyone may withdraw consent at any time.
Meetings and integration circles are not recorded, photographed, or streamed. At public events, ask before taking a photograph that includes another person, and respect a no. Do not screenshot or forward private messages or group discussions.
The Detroit Psychedelic Society is an educational and community organisation. We do not provide, sell, source, broker, or facilitate access to any controlled substance, and doing so through this community is grounds for immediate removal. Do not use DPS spaces, events, chats, or member lists to offer anything for sale, to recruit, or to promote another organisation without an organizer's agreement.
Please do not use DPS events as a place to acquire or exchange anything illegal. It puts every member in the room at risk, and it puts the community itself at risk.
Our meetings, circles, and events are peer community spaces. They are not therapy, medical care, or crisis support, and organizers are not acting as your clinicians. If you are in crisis, contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or emergency services. If you need clinical support, we will happily point you towards people who provide it.
Please arrive able to take part and to look after yourself. If you are intoxicated, an organizer may ask you to sit an event out — not as a punishment, but because we cannot hold a safe space otherwise. Anyone may be asked to leave a gathering for the safety of others.
Membership and DPS gatherings are for adults aged 21 and over. We ask you to confirm this when you apply.
If someone has made you uncomfortable, broken confidentiality, or broken these guidelines, tell an organizer at the event, or email askus@detroitpsychedelicsociety.org. You can also raise something that happened to someone else. We would rather hear it early and be wrong than hear it late.
Concerns about an organizer can be raised with any other organizer. We will take them seriously, and we will not share who raised a concern unless you agree.
Depending on what happened, an organizer may talk with you, give a warning, ask you to step away from some or all DPS spaces for a period, or end your membership. Serious harm, or anything illegal, may mean immediate removal and, where appropriate, involving the authorities.
Membership is approved and reviewed by DPS organizers, and we may decline an application or end a membership where we believe it is needed to keep the community safe. If your membership ends for a reason other than breaking these guidelines, our refund terms still apply.
These guidelines apply to members, applicants, and anyone attending a DPS event or taking part in a DPS space — in person, in meetings and circles, in group chats, and anywhere you are representing the community. They are part of your membership agreement.
